Dr. Campbell Begg announces that he will not stand for the next Wellington Hospital Board election.—Press Association. Mr A. W. Wellsted, commercial manager for the New Zealand Railways Department, arrived in Napier by last night’s mail train on official business. .Mr David Jones, chairman oi the New Zealand Meat Producers’ Board, returned to Wellington yesterday by the Rangitane after a six months’ visit to London. Mr H. L. Harker, Mayor of Uairua, has agreed to stand for re-elction. A strong deputation of business men waited on Mr Harker asking him to accept nomination, and 31 r Harker acceded to the request. 31 r K. J. Caverhill. District Public Trustee and supervisor of rural intermediate credits at Masterton for two years, has been appointed DeputySuperintendent of the State Advances Department.—Press Association, The relatives oi the late Dr P. F. McEvedy, ot Wellington, Airs U. Tyree, ot Invercargill, Mr N. Roakc, of Christchurch, and Mr C. Tricklebank, of Waipawa, were accorded votes ot condolence at the meeting ot the Hawke’s Buy Boxing Association last evening. Mr H. J. Otley chairman oi the North Canterbury Hospital Board, mLo became ill while attending the Hospital Boards Conference in Napier, is a patient in Sister Aitchison's Private Hospital, Hastings. Mr Otley is making satir factory progress, but will be confined to the hospital for some time. Mr It. H. Smith .accountant at the Christchurch branch ot the Bank of New South Wales for the past three years and a half, has received notice of his appointment as manager oi the Frankton Junction branch ot the bank. slr Smith was some years ago accountant at the Hamilton branch. He will leave to take up his new duties about March 21. Professor James Shelley was presented with a cheque br Dr Janies Hight, on behalf of memliers, at the annual meeting of the Christchurch Repertory Society. Dr Hight referred in glowing terms to the work of Professor Shelley as the producer tor the society. Professor Shelley said that it was the first time in 33 years nt producing that he had received a preseiitatiou. Commander Basil R. Willett, D.8.C., R.N., who has been lent to the New Zealand Government for service in H.M.B. Dunedin, arrived with Mrs Willett and two children by the Raugitaue from London yesterday, the part two years Commander Willett has served in the tactical division at the Admiralty. He will succeed Commander William Powlett, who completed three years in the Dunedin and is leaving for England about the middle of April. Other naval men who arrived by the Rangitane included PaymasterCommander H. K. Totton, Lieut.- Commander G. M. E. Fuller, Lieut.-Com-mander L. Gowland, and Paymaster Sub-Lieutenant B. K.
