ATHLETIC AND CYCLING
Hastings Meeting To-night The Hastings Amateur Athletic and Cycling Club will hold another of its fortnightly meetings this evening. A very good programme has been drawn up, and on the whole it should prove very interesting. I rank Sharpley, the New Zealand champion hurdler, who has returned from the Centenary games in Melbourne, will be competing in the 120 yards hurdles. From now on he will be concentrating on this event, as on March 8 and 9 he will be making the trip to Wanganui to defend his New Zealand title.
Aliases Rona Tong and Alma Pearson will be trying themselves out over the 80 yards low hurdles, and this race should be interesting to watch, as Miss Tong broke her own record at Gisborne a few days ago. In the sprints there will be two newcomers competing in Messrs. H. Taafe and J. Holderness (who is an old member of the club). These two will make the others go if they want to get to the tape first.
The cycling should prove exciting, as R. Attwood is getting back to his old form and by so doing will be making V. Alanning go all out. It will be very interesting to see if Celtic can still retain their lead in the footballers’ relay.
