NAPIER CONVENT FETE

Stalls for Sale of Work A garden fete was held in the Convent School grounds, Napier, yesterday, when there was a large attendance of parents and friends of the pupils. The grounds were attractively set out, and there were a number of stalls for the sale of work, plain and fancy sewing, and a great variety of useful and ornamental articles. The ladies in charge of the stalls, with their assistants, appeared to be doing a good business. The fete was opened by the Very Rev. Dean Holley, who congratulated the Revd. Mother and Sisters of the Convent and also other friends who had contributed to supplying the stalls for the tine display made. He emphasised that patronage of the stalls was a practical way of showing appreciation of the self-sacrificing work of the Rev. Mother and Sisters. He hoped the result of the fete would be thoroughly satisfactory. During the afternoon the following excellent programme was contributed by the school pupils:—Rose drill by the Montessori pupils; folk dance by Sacred Heart High School pupils; seaside action song by St. Patrick's School pupils; Japanese action song by St. Mary’s (Port) School pupils; physical culture exercises by the St. Joseph’s (Napier South) Schpol pupils. The Napier Citizens’ Band played a number of very enjoyable selections during the afternoon. In the evening a concert was held in the schoolroom and this also attracted a large attendance The programme was supplied by the pupils of the Maori school and was a very delightful one, the several items being all splendidly rendered. The following was the' programme: Chorus, “My Own New Zealand Home;’’ double poi; violin solo; action song “Tima”; haka. action song, “Mara Maori Maiden;” chorus, “Mau;” long poi; “Titi Torea,” (stick game); action song, “E Pari Ra ;” pianoforte trio; recitation (in character); Waka poi; E hoa ma.”
