Hastings Garden Circle

NAPIER MEMBERS’ VISIT

The monthly meeting of the. Hastings Townswomen’s Guild Garden Circle was held tn. St. Andrew’s Hall yesterday, when Mrs Pickering presided over about 50 or 60 members.

The afternoon's programme was a particularly interesting one and all the members thoroughly enjoyed listening to the speakers and watching the demonstrations. The committee of the Hastings circle took the opportunity of entertaining the Napier Garden Circle committee, and after Mrs. Pickering had welcomed the visitors, Mrs. Harvey, of Napier, in replying, spoke about the activities of the Napier people and thanked Mrs. Pickering lor tier welcome.

During the afternoon Mrs. Wright gave a most interesting talk on the culture of sweet peas lor show purposes, telling how to prepare the ground and giving many details which will greatly assist those trying to grow sweet peas

Mrs. Hurst, of Napier, then gave a delightful demonstration on making a shou.dcr spray from vegetables. Every different vegetable was most cleverly cut and shaped and put into place, and as she did this she explained her work tor the onlookers. Tho finished spray was most wonderful and called forth great praise. Mrs. Harvey had with her a basket of beautiful cinarana seedlings and these were given as a prize /or a vegetable competition, which was won by Mrs. Dyer.

Both Mrs. A. F. Glenny and Mrs. de Dennc thanked Mrs. Wright for her talk and Mrs. Hurst tor her demonstration, saying how very much they had enjoyed the afternoon. A light afternoon tea brought a most delightful afternoon to a conclu-
