The Navy Office has announced that seven ratings have been discharged from the Royal Australian Navy and another man sentenced to detention for 90 days, as a result of a disturbance on H.M.A.S. Moresby at Darwin on August 19. An able seaman struck a petty officer and he was disciplined. It wa* reported at the time, although the Commander of the Moresby denied it Inter, that the offender was put in irons. As a protest some other ratings locked themselves in the mess room and refused to open the door until the irons were removed.
The Court of Inquiry considered the action of seven ratings who refused to parade for duty when an atempt was made to restore order after the disturbance and the punishments announced are the results of these inquiries.
