INFORMAL "GET-TOGETHER"

A Fine Programme Arranged

Apart from associating with the visitors at the actual N.Z. Amateur Boxing Championship tournament in the Hastings Municipal Theatre this week, the citizens of Hastings anti the residents of the surrounding districts will be afforded an opportunity of more closely associating themselves with these from other parts and at the same time ensuring that the visitors will he given a good impression of the hospitality of the district.

With this aim in view the citizens’ committee, which was formed at a public meting called by his Worship the Mayor, Mr G. A. Muddison, to co operate with the Hawke’s Bay Boxing Association in the matter of entertaining the visitors, lias arranged a gala afternoon at Cornwall Park, Hastings, for Thursday next, the second day of the tourney.

The gathering is to be more or less of an informal “get together” assemblage of visitors and Hawke’s Buy people, and it is the earnest hope of the organising committee that the townspeople and residents of the country districts will avnil themselves of this opportunity to cement the feeling of good fellowship and friendliness that already exists in no small measure between Hawke’s Bay and other parts of the Dominion.

Thunks to the co-operation so readily given by a number of organisations, the committee hns nrriinged a programme of events that is delightfully varied and should provide keen enjoyment. To this end the Hawke’s Bay Pipe Band, the Hastings Hockey Hub-Association, the Hastings Scots Society, and the Haw’ke’s Bay Kennel Club, have arranged short sessions that combine to make an outdoor programme of amusement unique in the history of Hastings; and what is all the more interesting is that this entertainment is free to one and all who care to join in this “goodfellowship” gathering.

The function commences at 2 o’clock on Thursday afternoon, when the High* land Pipe Band will march from the Hastings Municipal Theatre to Cornwall I’ark, via Heretaunga and Nelson streets. Visiting delegates to the Boxing Conference and officials Of the championship tournament will assemble at the Assembly Hall and be conveyed to the Park. The Hawke's Bay Kennel Chib will then open the various forme of amuse ment by staging their annual Ribbon Parade in which there will appear many animals that have not only been successful at local shows but some that have gained New Zealand awards. This event is due to commence st 2.30 O'clock, and will lake place near the Tomoana mud entrance.

Next will he the hockey match arranged by the Hastings Sub-Associa-tion. who have sot down for play n roullv fine fixture. Hastings v. The Rest. Thu Hastings representatives have been successful in staving off four challenges for the Norcon Cup this year, and have enjoyed • record season. Their opponents will practically com prise the Hawke's Bay leant that pul up such a fine showing against the Aus trnlians lust Thursday. Tho game will start at 3 o’clock.

The programme in the afternoon will conclude with n display of National dancing arranged by tho Hastings Scots Society. A fine programme, which will start at 3.45 o'clock, of most of the popular national and folk dances will be provided by u party of children, all of’whom have appeared in ninny public and semi public functions throughout the district. Throughout the afternoon tho pipe band will play a number of musical selections, and in the evening will also march and play a programme in the main business area between the hours of 7 and 8 o’clock. The afternoon’s arrangement will ho under tho supervision of Mr C. H. Slater, with whom will be associated Cr. A. I. Rainbow ( Deputy-Mnyorl. Messrs F. .1. Bull, E. A. Tong, L. J Harvey, 11. W. 0. Baird. T. Cuming, B. Sutcliffe, and T. Fox. Afternoon tea will bo available at. the Park, so it is hoped that the citizens of Bastings nnd the residents of the surrounding districts Will rally in great numbers for this “unofficial welcome to visitors, many of whom will he making their first visit to .Hastings and Hawke’s Bay. It behove one ftriH all to see that they arc given n good impression of tho hospitality that Hawke’s Bay is renowned for in all matters of Entertainment.
