Close Game at Auckland
CLOSE CAME AT AUCKLAND.
By Telegraph—Press Association AUCKLAND, September 15
On a ground which suited the visitors the Australian hockey team drew with Auckland in a keenly contested game. Auckland were superior in the first half, establishing a two-nil lead. After half-time Australia recovered, and shortly before time were leading by three to two, when Auckland scored on the whistle.
Auckland’s goals in the first spell came from E. Watts and Robertson scoring in quick succession.. Australia replied with spasmodic attacks which failed through lack of combination. Milner scored for Australia early in the second half, and after a sustained attack Rothwell ran in following a penalty corner. After saving several shots the Auckland goalkeeper was beaten by a high ball from A. Penman. E. Watts scored Auckland’s final goal from a corner.
