THE WOOL MARKET
ENCOURAGING FEATURE No Variation in Prices SYDNEY OFFERINGS (By Telegraph-Press A “sn.—Copyright.) (Received 15, 11.30 a.m.) SYDNEY, Sept. 15. The weekly wool letter in the “Sydney Morning Herald’’ says: “Tho prices for the great bulk of the wool submitted this week in Sydney showed no quotable alteration, but competition was healthier, Yorkshire and Japan buying freely, with Continental competition more widely distributed.
“The absence of any marked variation in prices is encouraging, but the offerings have been small owing to withdrawals. The wisdom or otherwise of heavy withdraw." Is remains to be proved, us no development is in sight in Europe to justify the assumption that prices are likely to appreciate, while conditions for selling wool very freely to the Continent are far less favourable than last year. Next week will provide the test, as the London sales open on Tuesday.” BRADFORD ANTICIPATIONS Higher Values Than July (Received 15, 1.30 p.m.) LONDON, Sept. 14. The “Yorkshire Observer” anticipates higher values at Tuesday’s wool sales, and says that some of the leading topmakers at Bradford expect about 10 per cent, above July closing. Much depends on Continental competition. It is anticipated France will be fairly active, and even .Italy, despite restrictions, may do more than is generally expected.
