Heavy Increase for 1934 Season YIELD WAS GREATER “Wool production in New Zealand fur the year ended June 30, 193-1, show, an increase ol 12.1 million lb. over the total production ol 288.4 million lb. for the previous season, ’ states the monthly Abstract ot Statistics. “Contrary to anticipations early in-the season, the average yield lot each sheep shorn proved to be higher in 193334 than in 1932-33, and the position was further affected by a record lambing (with a greater number ol lambs shorn), and by a later killing season It is probable also that, with the much higher prices ruling fur wool, farmers wuuld endeavour to realise on their dead wool, crutchiugs, etc., to a greater extent than in immediately preceding years. “Information as to production of wool is not obtainable directly; but it is possible to compute fairly accurate figures on the basis of exports and local consumption during the 12 mouths ended June 30, and the variation m stocks revealed by tho annual census of stocks of wool held on June 30. “In tho following computation of total production, scoured, washed, and slipe wool has been converted to a greasy basis on tho assumption of au average loss of 33 1-3 per cent, in weight, while wool exported on skins has been taken at an average of 41b. a kin ’■ (Million lb.)
