EASTBOURNE TENNIS
Perry Defeats Crawford LONDON, May 5. At the Eastbourne tennis tournament the courts were slow after heavy rarin. A boisterous wind prevailed. Perry again proved his superiority over Crawford. Both drove beautifully. On the backhand Perry was confident and extremely difficult to pass at. the net, reaching everything on either wing and smashing Crawford’s tosses in deadly fashion. Crawford scored with good volleys but Perry was surer, winning outright with the first volley nearly every time he approached the net. The Australian Press Association representative commenting on the doubles final, in which Crawford and McGrath defeated Quist and Turnbull, says: “There would have been more consolation in the all-Australian final if Turnbull and Quist had not had to scratch to beat the Frenchmen in the semi-final. The problem of Australia’s Davi B Cup doubles pair consequently remains unsolved. Though, admittedly, Turnbull has not reached his best, it is not a comforting prospect to ‘have Crawford and McGrath carrying both the doubles and the singles.
