HASTINGS SECTION ANOTHER TALL SCORE Matahiwi were again defeated by a tall score, this time by Hastings, who ran their points up to 44 a s against the Maori’s three. In the first spell Ebbett scored a try, Taylor converting. Kerschberg then did so twice, Taylor converting the first, following this up by kicking a penalty goal and also converting a try by Bromley. Ebbett was next to score, Rae converting his try to make the half-time score 27 —0. After the interval J. Muir set the scoring on the move early with a try and after a long period of even play McDougall repeated the feat. A penalty goal by Mataira towards the clqse of the spell made the half-time score 6—3, Upon resumption Old Boys showed more distinct superiority though the ex-collegians provided plenty of thrills. CELTIC LEAD HAVELOCK On the Havelock North Domain the Celtic juniors defeated the Havelock North team by six points to three after a very keen and hard game. The first spell was fairly even, play being for the most part in mid-field, with each side taking turns at attack. The only points registered were the result of a try by Bullen (Celtic) who followed a kick through after a dropped pass among his backs and scored a good try. The kick went wide. In the second half Havelock held the upper hand and kept play in the Celtic territory almost continuously. However, the home side could not finish off their movements and the only joints gained were by means of a penalty by Coates. Within five minutes of the end Celtic took play to the Havelock line, Stevenson rabbiting his way across from a loose scrum. Mr J. Scott was referee. NAPIER SECTION TECHNICAL BEAT H. 5.0.8.
