TAKAPAU DEFEAT OLD BOYS OTHER GAME A DRAW. From Our Own Correspondent. WAIPUKURAU, May 5 The Central Hawke’s Bay Rugby Sub-union’s competition games were advanced a further step this afternoon when the fourth series of games were played. There were large and interested gatherings of the public at all of the games throughout the district, especially at Takapau, where a large crowd followed the game. The home side won by six points to three. SENIOR GRADE. Good combination between the backs when opportunities offered and a sturdy pack were the factors that tipped the scales in Takapau’s favour m their match with Waipukurau H. 5.0.8. at Takapau. From the outset the two teams set the pace and neither side let up till the sounding of no-side. A fast game full of excitement resulted. Misty rain, with an occasional sharp shower, fell throughout the match, but even this did not reduce the pace or lesson the interest, Takapau started out using their backs to every advantage and a Cleveland exciting rush, in which the ball was passed across the field and back again, ended in Karauria scoring the opening try for Takapau. The kick failed. Shortly afterwards A. Smales essayed two penalties from a handy position but was unable to turn them to H.S.O.lL’s account. At half-time Takapau lead by three points to nd. After the spell Monteith evened for H. 5.0.8. with a penalty kick. H. 5.0.8. made several slashing attacks, harassing the defence continually, but they lost many opportunities through being unable to finish off their movements. A score seemed certain on at least two occasions, but both times the visitors mulled it at the finish. Takapau’s final try was scored by Karauria again, who made a great bid and touched down just on the cal) of time. The game ended, Takapau 6, H. 5.0.8. 3. Mr N. R. Farquhar was referee.
