CAR RUNS INTO DITCH

Mishap on Havelock Road Fortunate escape from injury was experienced by Mr A. Christie, of Havelock North, at 5.50 o’clock last evening when his car travelled across the Has-tings-Havelock road into a deep ditch. Mr Christie was driving into Hastings, when upon meeting a light lorry driven by Mr Brathwaite, of Filzroy Avenue, Hastings, about 200 yards outside the Hastings boundary, one of the drivers kept too near tne centre of the road with the result that the vehicles touched. Mr Christie’s ear was so deflected that it travelled sharply across the load and entered the ditch on the northern side, coming to rest with its front wheels in the bottom of the difth and the rear of the car on the top not more than three feet fiom a telephone post. Mr Christie was unhurt and the car undamaged apart from a bent mudguard. The lorry also suffered only a bent mudguard and was stopped on the, road. Mr Brathwaite was unhurt.
