Lady Author, Paul Drusus and Hard Words were always prominent, but half a mile from home Paul Drusus took charge and won easily. LONGBURN HANDICAP, of £55; 1} mile.—3 JEAN PARRISH s cr (S. Jean Parrish held a commanding lead all the way. McDonald handicap, of £7O; 2 miles.—3 TASMAN FLIGHT 36yds (Berkett) 1, 5 Arapai 72yds (Hughes) 2, 8 Red Huia scr (Gerrard) 3. Also ran: 7 Black Native scr, 10 Native Game scr, 1 Ohinemutu scr., 4 Bell Heather scr, 5 Blue Blood (bracketed 'with Arapai scr), 9 Native Maid scr, 2 Earl Bingen 84 yds, 6 Amy Etawah 96. Won by a long neck, six lengths between second and third. Time, 4.52. Tasman Flight and Red Huia led at the end of the first mile, but the latter broke and Tasman Flight established a good lead, showing the way to the straight ahead of Arapai, Red Huia and Blue Blood. The leader stopped fast, but was still in front at the post though galloping. The stewards decided not to alter the placings. DASH HANDICAP, of £55; 1 mile —1 LISLEA (Smith) 1, 4 Belinda King 24yds (Pope) 2, Oro's Pride 48yds (Donald) 3. Also ran: 2 Peter’s Fault scr., 5 Storm Queen 24yds, 6 Arthur Chimes 24. Won by a length and ahalf, third back six lengths. Time, 2.17. Lislea went to the front at the half-mile and won well from the fast finishing Belinda King. PRESIDENT’S HANDICAP, of £7O, 1} mile.—2 PAUL DRUSUS scr., (Bryce) 1, 3 Smoke Screen 12yds (Edwards) 2, 1 Guymond scr (Berkett) 3. Also ran: 4 Daddy Longlegs 12yds, 5 Lady Author 24, 6 Highland Derby 24, 7 Teri Kingi 36, 8 Special Sun 36. Won by a length and a-half, third back half a length. Time, 2.50 Highland Derby led to the straight and in a close finish Paul Drusus got up to win nicely, Smoke Screen cutting Guymond out for second.
