FOLEY MEMORIAL WIN. BIG AVONDALE DIVIDEND. By Telegraph—Press Association. AUCKLAND, April 7. The Avondale Jockey Club’s autumn meeting opened at Avondale to-day in fine weather. There was a good attendance. The track was firm. The totalisator handled £24,011 10/-, against £20,605 last year, an increase of £3406 10/-. Morcliu, the winner of the Rosebank Handicap returned his backers over a decade. Jonathan broke the course record by running the Foley Memorial Handicap in 2.4 1-5. The first three leaders were the same into the straight with Jonathan, 400 yards from the post. Jonathan showed a good turn of speed to win by one and a-half lengths from Carfex, with King March a neck away third. Time, 2.4 1-5, a course record. Evidence was given that the horse was ridden by F. Thomson to instructions by the owner and trainer. The committee found that the instructions were practically carried out by . the jockey, who did not use his best judgment.
