WHITE MEMORIAL

Puketapu Organ Dedicated “To the Glory of God in sweet memory of Adrian Kinross White, Pilot Officer R.A.F., October 12, 1932. “He shall mount up with wings as an eagle.” The above inscription is on the silver plate on the beautiful White memorial organ which was dedicated in St. Michael and All Angels Church, Puketapu, last night by His Lordship the Bishop of Waiapu in the presence of a crowded congregation. The memorial is in memory of the late Mr. Adrian White, of Omarunui, a most promising air pilot who lost his life in an aeroplane disaster in England in October, 1932. Among those present in the congregation were many very old friends of the late Mr. White’s parents, who are esteemed Hawke’s Bay settlers. The new organ, which is a handsome gift to the church, is deeply appreciated. Mr. H. L. Harston, of Napier, was the organist, and the strains of the instrument denoted a rich tone. His Lordship, in his address, dealt with the introduction of music into the Church and its gradual development. Praise to God, he said, should bo the outstanding feature of music in the Church. The organ was a memorial to a. young man who was cut down in the beginning of a life which was full of hope and promise. The young life had not been wasted, having been taken by God to be nearer Him. The organ, said His Lordship, would play a most important part in Church praise, but he reminded his congregation that they should praise God not only with their voices but in their lives. The special hymn for aviators was then sung, the impressive service being closed with the Benediction and the singing of “Abide With Me.”
