THRILLING INCIDENT
Mountaineers' Escape (By Telegraph—Press Association.) CHRISTCHURCH, April 7. A thrilling incident occurred during a retreat from an attempt to cross Fyfe's Pass from Mueller Glacier to Landsborough Valley undertaken by Mr A. J’. Scott (Christchurch) and Mr D. W. Foster (Wellington), accompanied by Guide Vic. Williams, of the Mount Cook Hermitage. Guide Williams had a narrow escape when the upper lip of a schrund broke away in front of him as he was cutting steps in the ire above it. The party was on an ice slope, and as all were roped together, nothing could have saved the others if the leader had been swept down.
