A telegram was sent to Mr. Bernard Shaw at Kaikoura by the Mayor of Christchurch, Mr. D. G. Sullivan, M.P., asking whether he would attend a reception at Christchurch and whether it should be civic or private. Mr. Shaw replied: “Please settle nothing until my arrival this afternoon.”
