ACCIDENT AT TOMOANA
Young Man Gravely Hurt LEG AMPUTATED The condition of Mr Lindsay Jackson, aged 20, of Clive, who had his leg amputated as the result of an accident at the Tomoana Freezing Works last Wednesday, is still grave, although he is slightly improving.
At 2-30 o’clock last Wednesday afternoon, Mr Jackson had his foot jammed in a lift at the Tomoana Freezing Works. He was admitted to the Napier Hospital suffering from a compound fracture of the left leg and was operated upon. In addition to hi s injuries he was suffering from shock.
On the following day his leg was amputated above the knee, at which time his condition was so grave that the hospital authorities entertained little hope for his recovery. Since then, however, he, has made marked improvement, although he is not yet out of danger, however. Yesterday afternoon, when Mr. William J. McNab, of Ikanui street. Hustings, was engaged with another man unloading cases from a Inrry at the works Mr. McNab slipped and fell backwards on to the floor, which wa € being sprayed with boiling water used for cleaning the floor. Mr. McNab suffered painful burns to the back and shoulders and after receiving first-aid treatment, he was removed to his home. He is reported to be in a satisfactory condition.
