Armed Gangsters at Work KANSAS CITY, March 28. Four men were killed to-day in the most sanguinary municipal election that Kansas City has known. The Citizens’ Fusion Party, led by Dr. Ross Hill, n former university pre sident, failed by a wide margin to oust “Little Tammany,” led by “Big Tom” Pendergast. Citizens state that they saw machineguns in the hands of election workers, who roamed the streets in motor cars, while many knuckle-dusters, pistols and blackjacks were to be seen. The Kansas City Star, one of whose reporters was badly beaten, called the election “a disgrace to the city and a blot on the State of Missouri.” Perrv Oldham was unlocking the door of his hardware store when two carloads of gunmen dashed up and opened fire on Deputy-Sheriff Flacy. He fell mortally wounded, but returned the fire as he lay dying and killed one of the gangsters. Oldham and another bystander were unable to escape from the line of fire and were killed.
