Effect on Growers “NEWS NOT DISTURBING” "The news from Germany regarding a ban on wool and other imports should not disturb Australian growers, says the "Sydney Morning Herald,” German imports of all classes have been much in excess of exports, placing a severe strain on the nation’s financial resources. Recent, action is an effort to correct that position. Restricted imports of manufactures are likely to continue. Probably also the importation of tops and _ arris will be kept in cheek. That restriction would affect Britis!, French, and Belgian sales of those products to German buyers. It is also considered likely that outside speculators who import wool into Germany and subsequently soli it as tops an' 1 yarns and take the proceeds out of the country will also find their
operations curtailed, but it is improbable that th" b”yer of the staple for genuine consumption at the German establishments will experience any brake -ii his importations of raw material. The latter is essential to the conduct of the German mill industry, providing the people with employment and the nation with its clothing requirements- Until final arrangements are made regarding I' e control of imports, wool buying on behalf of Germany will probably be hampered, but that' situation is only likely to tie very temporary. Fortunately, the busy selling season in Australia is completed. London sales, which were to open on April 24, have been postponed until May 1. Arrangements provide for the offering of catalogues -n Brisbane from April 30 to May 3. and in Sydney from May 7 Germi.n organisatin for the control of general imports will be. in readiness, and raw materials such as wool will lie allowed ’o proceed freely into the <-oun try-
