H.B. FRUIT EXPORT

Forwarding of Pears INSTRUCTOR’S ADVICE ‘‘The Rangitane will be loading pears at Wellington until Wednesday of next week,’’ stated Mr. N. J. Adamson, Government Orchard Instructor, when discussing the fruit export season with the ‘‘Tribune.’’ ‘‘As this will be the last vessel for some time that will be loading pears, it would be of advantage to pear exporters, particularly shippers of Winter Nells pears, to forward their consignments as early as possible, so as to connect with this boat.” Referring to the export of Delicious apples, Mr. Adamson said that on ac count of the Kuramea loading of Sturmers making picking and packing difficult for growers who were concentrating on the Sturmer shipment, so as tn complete their allocation, the closing date for the receiving of Delicious had hern extended until April 12.

Questioned as to the number of cases of fruit that had been handled at the fruit export assembly shed, Mr. Adamson said that up till Thursday, approximately 180,000 cases had been forwarded This total was about 8000 cases down on that handled at the same time last year,. but in a short time the export would have caught up with the previous figures. The shipping of fruit through Napier had made forwarding of cases much Quicker, according to Mr. Adam son. There had been no shortage of trucks as in previous years and for thia reason the use of the Napier port had been very satisfactory.
