FOREIGN SHIPPING
Increase at British Ports British Official Wireless Service RUGBY, April 4. The return of shipping movements at British ports shows that the tonnage of foreign trade arrivals with cargo in February 1934 increased 7.9 per cent over February, 1933, while departures with cargo were 3.9 per cent greater. Arrivals in ballast decreased 1.3 per cent, but departures were 13.4 per cent larger. Coasting trade entrances and clearances with cargo were 9.9 and 6.3 per cent heavier respectively, and in bal last 5.2 and 4.4 per cent greater. The 25th anniversary is being celebrated of the establishment of the Port of London Authority, which superseded the various dock and other companies which formerly exercised powers over the tidal water of the Thames. In the interval immense improvements to the waterway by dredg ing and a comprehensive programme of development of dock systems and warehouse accommodation have been effected to facilitate the handling of incieascd passenger and goods traffic.
