SALARY CUTS OPPOSED
French Postal Workers Threaten Strike PARIS, April 5. The Government's announcement of cuts, including the President’s salary by 20 per cent and Ministers’ salaries by 15 per cent, is accompanied by a lengthy letter explaining that the reduction of civil servants’ wages is made among the oldest grades. M. Doumergue is relying on the support of workers who have suffered 30 per cent reductions of wages in recent years while pay in the Civil Service is higher than before the war. One report says that postal employees arc the most recalcitrant of the civil servants and h.'.ve already discussed an immediate two-hours protest strike as a preliminary to a general strike on May 1.
