INSTANTLY KILLED

Collision with Express Train CYCLIST THROWN 30 YARDS By Telegraph—Press Association CHRISTCHURCH, April 4. Mr Gilbert F. Franks, married, aged 29 years, of 41 Mackworth afreet, Philipstown, was killed shortly after 7 o’clock this evening when his motor cycle collided with the second express from the south at Templeton crowing. Mr Franks was thrown about 30 yards along the line and must have been killed instantaneously. Several persons saw Mr Franke approaching the crossing from the south. He disappeared in the darkness and the next thing they noticed was the inward express pulling up quickly after the engine had crossed the road. It is understood that several of these persons heard the express whistle before reaching the crossing. Mr Frank’s body was mutilated when picked up. The train, which generally passes through Templeton at about 40 miles an hour, pulled up within 400 or 500 yards and backed to the crossing. It was able to proceed after ten minutes’ delay.
