KEEN COMPETITION

Hastings Fat Sheep Values GOOD QUALITY OF ENTRY The quality of the fat sheep entry, particularly for ewes, was very good at the Stortford Lodge sale yesterday. Some of the best ewes that have been entered this year were included, while in the lambs there were some very prime sheep included. This, combined with good local and export competition, kept the market firm on last week’s rates. The entry totalled 2000 head. The usual exporting interests were well to the fore during the selling, local butchering interests buttressing up their efforts. The quality of the entry drew praise from several of the buyers, one export operator remarking that the ewes were “either very good or poor. There were no medium sheep included.” Mr F. L. Gordon and Mr H. Eglinton both had some particular ly good ewes entered, big-framed and in great order.
