JOY ON CLYDESIDE

GIANT CUNARDER Work Resumed to Music WORLD’S BIGGEST SHIP (British Official Wireless.) (Received 4, 12.30 p.m.) RUGBY, April 3. Band pipers playing Scottish march ing tunes led the first contingent of men to resume work on the giant Cunarder at Clydebank this morning. It was a notable day on the Clydeside, for no work has been done on the Cunarder for over two years. To-day only 4000 men began work, but the numbers will steadily increase until in a few weeks 6000 men will be employed on her. At present the shell is complete except for the stern, and it is hoped the vessel will be ready for launching in the autumn. In preparation for that event £35,000 has been spent on widening and deepening the Clyde. The veseel will have a tonnage of 73,000 and will be the largest and probably the fastest in the world. NEW ORIENT LINER Premier Unit of Fleet (Received 4, 1.45 p.m.) LONDON, April 3. The “Daily Telegraph” says that the new Orient liner will be the premier unit of the fleet and about 3000 tons greater than the Otranto. One of the fire-prevention innovations will be an automatic sprinkler in every cabin. As soon as the temperature exceeds a certain limit the cabin will be drenched with a fire extinguishing compound.
