H.B. TOURIST TRAFFIC

Napier's Plea for Better Treatment HASTINGS GIVES SUPPORT. A complaint that the Government Tourist Department is not doing as much as it might in directing tourist traffic through the Hawke’s Bay, Poverty Bay and East Coast districts, has been made in a circular letter sent by the Napier Chamber of Commerce to various authorities in the localities concerned, as well as to the members of Parliament in the various electorates. 'The letter was discussed by the Hastings Chamber of Commerce last evening. The letter asked for support in an attempt to obtain “more equitable treatment” in advertising the scenic and tourist resorts and traffic routes of the Dominion, and that more attention should he given to directing tourists through the Hawke’s Bay and Poverty Bay districts. Mr. F. S. Smith expressed the view that the letter was a step in the right direction, and said that many English people especially appreciated Hawke's Bay because of the similarity between its scenery and the scenery of their own country'. Hawke's Bay should not be left out m the cold, and tourists should be directed in accordance with what they were looking for. On Mr E. J. Hallett’s motion the meeting passed a resolution supporting the views expressed in the Napier Chamber’s letter, but Mr Hallett nevertheless expressed the opinion that this district was being quite well treated, and that fault should not be found where there was not cause to . find it
