“Social Pest’' Fined In the Napier Police Court this morning Hugh (Slim) Cleary, a labourer, of Port Ahuriri, aged 33 years, was charged with behaving m a disorderly manner while drunk at Port Ahuriri. (Teary was convicted and fined £5. in default a month’s imprisonment. He was allowed time to pay. Constable J. W. Williamson, of Port Ahuriri, told Messrs C. D. Cox and W. Somerset-Smith, J.l’. s, that at 6.15 o’clock last evening Cleary approached him while in a drunken state and accused him of stealing half-a-crown. This was near a bus stop at the port. There were a lot of people waiting for the bus, and Cleary went up to them in au annoying manner and asked for matches and cigarette papers, “I could neo that the people didn’t want, to have anything to do with him,” said witness. ‘‘Several ladies were afraid to go near the bus stop. He has 27 convictions altogether He is a social pest. Under the section he is liable to a fine of £lO or three months’ imprisonment. He richly deserves the penalty.
