ST. PATRICK’S COLLEGE
Foundation Laid 50 Years ARCHBISHOP HONOURED By Telegraph—Press Association. WELLINGTON, March 16. Fifty years ago, on March 16, 1884. His Lordship Bishop Redwood, Bishop of Wellington, laid the foundation stone of St. Patrick’s College, Wei lington. To-day, as Metropolitan of the Roman Catholic Church in New Zealand, Archbishop Redwood was the guest of honour at a complimentary luncheon at St. Patrick’s College, and in the afternoon attended the fiftieth annual athletic sports meeting of the college at the Basin Reserve. "The 50 years that have passed seem to be a very short period,” said His Grace. He well remembered the fine day that they had 50 years ago. He had made a lot of prophesies about the college then, and they had come true—more than true. The luncheon was a complimentary one given to representatives of various athletic bodies in the city and I<> the Press of Wellington in apprecia tion of the services rendered to Ihe college during the 50 years of its life.
