Board of Governors MONTHLY MEETING At the annual monthly meeting of the Hastings High School Board of Governors, there were present Messrs E, J. W. Hallett (chairman), A. D. Ross, J. Wright, F. C. Rush-Munro, F. J. Hull, Mrs Emmett and the principal and secretary. The report of the principal (Mr W. A. G. Penlington) for February, was adopted as follows:— “I have to state that the roll-number has fallen off slightly during the month, owing maVly to the number of boys obtaining employment. On Match 1, it was 472. This represents an increase of 13 on last year’s attendance, but the increase is not sufficient to qualify for the appointment of an addi tional teacher. The average roll-num-ber for the month of February was 476.7 and the average daily attendance 453.4 or D 5.1 per cent. “Shortage of seatirg accommodation is causing much inconvenience. The purchase of 50 additioi -I ’esks has been approved by the department. “Mrs Thorburn has resumed “king the classes in home nursing, which had not completed their ourse of essons at the end of last year. “Mrs Craven has been taking the girls for physical culture since February 14 —a period per week with each form, together with additional massed drill. Very pleasing progress is being made by the girls.” The secretary was authorised to purchase two new typewriters for the commercial classes. Advice was received from the department that a grant of £5B Is 4d had been m ide for the purchase of 50 new single desks and seats. The Wellington Young Women’s Bible Class Union wrote accepting the conditions for the tse of the school and grounds for its annual camp from March 28 to April 2. The question of laying down a satisfactory cricket pitch for match play was considered at length, and Mr Wright reported that he had interviewed Mr Corner, superintendent of the reserves at Napier, and Mr Corner had kindly agreed to inspect the present wicket and make a report as to the best method of going about this work. Accounts for £623 15s 6d were passed for payment.
