BUILDING CONSTRUCTION
Model By-Laws Urgent The Napier Chamber of Commerce decided last night to write to the Prime Minister upon the question of model by-laws upon the subject of building construction, to impress him with the urgency of having these brought down immediately. Mr M. R. Grant said that though it was three years since the Napier earthquake, no regulations governing building had been brought down, and while model by-laws might be framed, it might mean that every local body could make its own. The secretary, Mr R. M. Chadwick, said the Government had stated—for the most part as the result of repeated applications from Napier—that it was its intention to bring down a standard set of by-laws, framed by very able mon. Upon the motion of Mr Grant, sec ■ ended by Mr H. Anderson, it was r 1 solved to point out to the Government , that the matter was an urgent one, demanding immediate enforcement. The Napier Chamber will also write to the Associated Chambers of Commerce, with a request that action be taken. Mr Grant said that if the Govern■ment intended to bring down model by-laws, it rhould be done at once.
