QUARRY FATALITY
Man Buried in Metal Dust (By Telegraph Press Association.) AUCKLAND, March 15. A fatal accident occurred at the quarries on the bank of the Waikato river at Tuakau when a workman, Alfred Charles Baigent, aged 47, married, was buried by metal dust in a hopper and was suffocated. It is thought that the deceased was standing on top of the metal when it suddenly gave way beneath him. He was hurdled to the bottom of the hopper, being buried beneath about 20 tons of dust. No one saw the accident, but Mr Baigent’s absence led to the surmise that a mishap had occurred. Companions quickly recovered Mr Baigent, but a doctor found that death had occurred. Deceased is survived by a wife, two sons and two daughters
