NEW REDCLYFFE BRIDGE

A Handsome Structure MORE THAN HALF FINISHED The building of the new ferro-con-crete bridge at Redclyffe is now more than half completed, and it is already evident that the completed bridge will probably be the handsomest work of its kind in this district. The design is artistically impressive, and makes the existing bridge, which becomes more dilapidated looking every day, abjectly shabby in comparison. Not counting the supporting ends for the bridge, there will be seventeen solid piers to support the decking, and fourteen of them have already been 1 completed. The foundations of the remaining three are ready to be gone on with, and the steel piles have been driven. The bridge has been completed, with ornamental concrete sides and traffic surface, as far as the ninth pier from the Napier end. so that more than half the bridge is finished. The work has hecn slightly delayed owing to the fact that the contractor has been awaiting delivery of steel, but it is expected that the remaining work will not take long to do. The level of the new bridge is considerably higher than that of the old bridge, and will be above flood level.
