ELSJiTHOiU , E ME.EIIfiiU. — The monthly meeting of the Else- I thorpe Women’s Institute was held in the Hall on Thursday, March 8. . Mrs. Cyril Williams presided over an attendance of 70 members. This being the end of the financial year the secretary, Mrs. A. Williams, read the annual report and balance-sheet, which was ol a very satisfactory nature. Six new members were enrolled. The business of voting for the members of the new committee was then proceeded with and resulted as follows-. President, Mrs. Cyril Williams; vicepresidents, Mrs. Neilson and Mrs. Thorpe; secretary, Mrs. A. Williams; committee, Mrs. R. S. McAulay, Mrs. Ryan, Mrs Prese, senr., Mrs. Gilmour, Mrs. Priest, .Mrs. Nuttal. Mrs. Nelson, Mrs Wilder, Miss Barnes. Th, result ot the potato competition resulted:— Mrs. S. Vesty (24jlbs.) 1, Mrs. R. S. McAulay (IDJIbs.) 2, Mrs. W. McAulay (18j|lbs.) 3. The competition, “Child’s Knitted Singlet.” resulted: Mrs. Burling, Sour., I, Mrs. Sutherland 2. Mrs. Lissette 3. The competition, “Small Cakes.” resulted: Mrs. Lissette 1. Mrs. Watson 2. The points prize lor the year’s com- I petitions was won by Mrs. C. Nelson, I with 77 points. Mrs. F. Lissette has undertaken tin I making of the institute’s birthday cake I for April, when the fourth anniversary I will be celebrated. This is an open i meeting, to which friends of members are invited. Mrs. Fosset and Mrs. Sutherland were appointed delegates to the Southern Hawke’s Bay Federation meeting at Otane on April 19th. On the sales table was a display ol beautilul work done by members, which will be exhibited at the Waipukurau I Institute handicraft exhibition this! month. The Elsethurpe ball committee have I very generously promised to build a j cupboard for the institute library, this I being a very popular branch of lush- ! tute activities, and is presided ovei : with great success by Miss Jean Sulk- I erland, who acts as librarian. Votes of thanks were accorded the | president and secretary for the very ’ able manner in which they had carried ; out their duties. Mrs. Williams, in a neat little speech, thanked the members, and referred to the friendly spirit that prevailed in the institute. The singing of the National Anthem brought a very enjoyable afternoon to • Hoee. ’
