SHARK ATTACKS BOY

Terrible Injuries Inflicted DEATH AFTER BRAVE RESCUE By Telegraph—Press Assn.—Copyright. SYDNEY, March 12. While bathing in the surf at Deewhy, three miles from Manly, to-day, Frank Riley, aged 16, was so severely injured by a large shark that he died shortly after being pluckjly rescued by Laurie O’Toole and other members of the local life-saving club. Riley was standing between the second line of breakers in only three feet of water when the shark made its first attack. It missed but turned sharply and attacked him again, a second after Riley had given the alarm, and tore off his leg at the hip, also the lower portion of his back. His plight was noticed by other bothers, all of whom scampered to the beach crying out ‘ ‘ Shark! ’ ’ Riley, when brought ashore, tried to speak but he died before medical aid arrived. His wounds were so terrible that he had little chance of surviving, according to the doctor who visited tho scene.
