Steady Prices for Merino CONTINENTAL COMPETITION LONDON, Jan. 31. At the wool sales 10,429 hales were offered including 6065 New Zealand; about 7135 were sold. Continental competition was well sustained; Yorkshire was more reserved. Withdrawals of Crossbreds were fairly numerous. All better grades of Merinos realised steady prices. New Zealand quotations: Greasy Merino, CHW, top ISd.average 16d. SOUTHLAND RETURN Over Half a Million (By Telegraph—Press Association.) INVERCARGILL, Feb. 1. It is estimated that the return from the wool sale will be over £500,000, the average price per bale being £l7. Passings amounted to about two per cent. The average price per pound was 13d, compared with 5.'34d last year, when bales averaged £7 4/6 and the total amount realised was £175.600. DUNEDIN’S NEXT SALE 80 Per Cent.
