RELIEF WORKERS’ WAGES
NO MEETING TO BE HELD. REQUEST NOT GRANTED. A request made to the Mayor of Napier (Mr. C. O. Morse) by a deputation of Napier relief worker?, that a public meeting be bold on McLean Park to-morrow afternoon to discuss the relief workers’ hardships arising
out of recent cuts, is not to bo granted. Mr. Morse stated yesterday that, in view of numerous requests he had received during the morning, he had no intention of calling a public meeting. He had been informed that the deputation (Messrs. J. H. McDonald and R. Paterson) was not representative of the relief workers of the town. He had received a reply to the telegram sent to Mr. W. E. Barnard, M.P. Mr,. Barnard stated that it had been pointed out to him by the Minister of Employment that the extent of the cut ms only five per cent, and not ten per cent, as had been stated.
