The championship double round tournament of the Napier Chess Club has been won by Mr. E. L. Smith, who scored 9} points. The runner-up was Mr. G. H. Brown with nine points. There were eight entries in the tournament, which provided some most, interesting games. The handicap tour nament was won by Mr. 11. D. Earney. Mr. L. Couch gained second place and Mr. A. S. Pirani third. New season goods in. F. Thorp and Co. are opening up the latest spring footwear fashions. Street or picnic shoes in white or coloured cauvas from 10/6. Napier and Hustings.
