CUTS IN RELIEF PAY

Indignation has been aroused among the unemployed by the latest official intimation regarding the district allocation, which will necessitate an allround reduction in the relief scale amounting to nearly one-third for one class. When advised of the new scale today, a big group of unemployed waited on the Mayor, who explained that the local relief committee had already protested against the latest cut and now awaited the Minister’s reply. The deputation pointed out that the earnings from relief work will not furnish sustenance for families next week, and the Mayor arranged for an appeal to th Hospital Board on Monday. A mass demonstration is being organised.
