A PROCLAMATION

CHARITY SPORTS DAY. CHARLES MORSE, MAYOR. To the Councillors and Citizens of Napier: Meeting. Whereas there reside in this our city of Napier divers persons without regular employment, and whereas the said persons because of such unemployment are without sufficient means of support and whereas it is desirable to raise funds to relieve distress existing amongst the said persons and their dependents: Now therefore I, Charles I Morse, Mayor and Chief Citizen of and in Napier, the capital city of Hawke's Bay, in the Dominion of New Zealand, do hereby command and enjoin each and every of you, the said councillors and citizens, to attend at McLean Park in the said city of Napier on the afternoon of to morrow. Saturday, the 19th day of August, 1933, and there to contribute the sum of one shilling for admission to the said park and of sixpence for a seat in the grandstands therein, which contributions shall be held by me for the relief of distress. And you aro further commanded to sec, witness and enjoy at the said park the games of basketball, the march past of 400 basketbailers, the soccer representatives of Poverty Bay in combat with the representatives of Hawke’s Bay, the junior Rugby representatives in contest with the select colts from our senior Rugby teams, and other attractions too numerous to mention. And I hereby further proclaim, approve authorise and declare that any councillor and citizen so attending and contributing shall for a period of forty-eight hours front the said 19th day of August, 1933, be exempt from rry further contributions for the relief of distress.
