STRATFORD HOSPITAL

DOCTOR'S REPORT AND NURSES’ LETTER. EXCEPTION TO BOARD MEMBER’S REMARKS. (By Telegraph-Press Association.) STRATFORD, Aug. 18. At a meeting of the Stratford Hospital Board a report was received from Dr. D. Steven, medical superintendent, taking exception to remarks made at board meeting on July 18. Dr. Steven said the number of nurses who had gone thdough the hospital in the last live years was 50, not 90. He empliattically refuted any suggestion of undue hardness on the part of the matron. He stated that the resignations at Stratford over the period were less than formerly and he believed that they were less than in other hospitals. A Jetted signed by 15 nurses stated that they appreciated the methods adopted by the matron in disciplining the institution and that the statement made by a board member that the matron was too hard was incorrect and absurd. The letter emphasised the loyalty ol the staff to the hospital and stated that the staff expected u reciprocal measure of loyalty from the board. Resolutions were passed by the board receiving the nurses’ letter and stating that the doctor’s report on the resignations was considered satisfactory. Iho board regretted that there had been an error in the figures quoted by the secretary, who explained that 90 nurses had passed through the hospital in seven, not five, years.
