BOWLING
THE SPACEMAN CUP. WIN FOR BLUFF HILL PAIR. The eighth challenge for the Spackman Cup since it was secured by L. Pirie and 8. Bendall (Napier Club) was played on the Napier Club's green on Thursday, the challenging pair being L. McClurg and H. Newton (Bluff Hill). The challengers were the first to open the score, and it became apparent that Blufl’ Hill had a rink much to their liking. When five heads were coreplpted Newton had a total of 7 to his cfedit, Bendall's meanwhile standing at a single. The latter then chalked up a four and with a six and two brought Ins score to 13. This total anchored the holders, as during the next seven heads they could only add a single. Newton meanwhile running his total to 21. The two following heads gave five to Bendali, who was th..r only two behind Bluff Hill. Two singles to Bluff Hill made it neeessiary for Bendall to secure four on the last head. This ho was unable to manage, two going to his score, the measure for third shot favouring the challengers. The game proved very interesting, the Bluff Hill skip, Newton, bringing off several fine yard-on shots. McClurg was very steady and also quite capable of crowding Pirie off the jack when necessary. The recent rains had slackened up the green, and this prevented the Napier Club’s pair from reaching the high standard of previous games. Messrs A. Bryan and R. Thomas (Wairere) are the next challenging pair, the match to bo played on the Bluff Hill green.
