This petition must be lodged with the Town Clerk before April 3. boine weeks ago the Commissioner for Napier, Mr J. S. Barton, announced that after due consideration it had ■been decided to continue the practice of closing on Thursday, since, viewed from all angles, this seemed nu»st suitable for the townspeople in Napier and immediate surrounding areas. The Saturday Half-Holiday League has other views On the matter, and as they are required by statute to secure only one-tenth the number of people on the electoral roll to sign the petition, it seems likely that the question of

closing day will become one of the issues at the forthcoming municipal elections on May 3. It should be noted that this matter may ordinarily bo determined only at municipal elections, so that whether the league be successful or unsuccessful the problem will be resolved for at least two years.
