STORE SHEEP EASIER

MUCH SMALLER YARDING. With a much smaller yarding of store sheep than has been the case for many weeks, the store sheep sale at Stortford Lodge yesterday was uneventful. Prices were easier in the majority of entries, but a few high quality entries made prices on a pax with those of last week’s sale. Some excellent backcountry lines were offering, and the demand for these sheep was soon apparent. The demand for breeding ewes has definitely slackened off, as the great majority of sheep-men have obtained all the ew’es that they require. The recent rains bringing on the flush of autumn feed had an effect on the sale to a small extent, owners of local properties being desirous of purchasing a few ewes tn stock their land to the full capacity. Before, with the prevailing shortage of feed, they were unable to do this. Some of the best lines offering, and those by which farmers will be best able to judge the tone of the market, were the following:— Five-year ewes, 232 in the line, down from the high country, big framed, and useful fat lamb producers realised 5/6. On account of Brownlee Bros., Puketitiri, a line of 229 fat and forward wethers sold at 10/7, comparing favourably with the wether prices in the fat sheep. Five-year ewes, sound in the mouth, a good line of 229, also on account of Brownlee Bros., made 9/-. One hundred and sixty 2-th. wethers from Patoka, a nice line of store to forward conditioned sheep, realised 9/8. Down from the Kaiwaka district, a lino of hard conditioned 5-yr. ewes sold at 4/9. On account of Walker Bros., Mangatahi, 149 5-yr. ewes made 5/4. One hundred and seventy-seven in tho line, a draft of sound mouthed medium conditioned ewes, sold out at 7/1. Running with a Southdown ram, a line of 160 5-yr. ewes, a good type of ewe, down from Rissington, and on account of Mr H. R. Clark, sold at 7/-. Another line of 5-yr. ewes, sound of the mouth, and 173 in the draft, made 8/-, which was quite o good return. Offered on account of Lee Bros, Kaiwaka, a line of fat and forward wethers, 56 in number, fit for the fat pens, realised 11/-. Also from Lee Bros., a line of 34 5-yr. ewes, that had been running with a blackface ram, sold at 5/6. Store conditioned lambs, with good frames, and a good fattening proposition. n line of 73 blackface cross lambs made 6/7. Five-year, a line of 99 ewes, running with Southdown rams, a line of hard conditioned sheep down bv road, sold at 4/6. In store to forward order, a line of 79 2-th. wethers realised 9/-. Down from Patoka, a line of 70 mixed aged ewes, in fair order were disposed of for 5/10. Two. 4 and 6-th. ewes, in good store condition, a useful line of sheep, sold at 8/7. Two-tooth ewes, a line of 49, excellent breeding ewes, had a readv sale at 10/5. One hundred and ten in the line, blackface lambs in fat and forward condition made 9/-. Aged ewes, mixed in the mouths, and in poor store order sold at 4/-. A good draft of 2 and 4-th, ewes, with a preponderance of 2-ths. in good forward order, a line of sheep that should produce good lambs, realised 10/7. Down from Hissington. a line of 2-th. wethers, in fair store condition, offered on account of Mr B. B. Burgess made 9/5.
