NEWS AND NOTES. (From Our Special Representative). I A very welcome interlude at the monthly meetings of the Waipawa Hospital Board, and one that is deserving of a word of commendation, is the provision by the matron and staff of a most appetising morning tea. Daintily served and with the best of edibles provided, this little break introduces a pleasant social touch to the board’s meetings. During the month of February 89 patients were admitted and treated at the AVaipukurau Public Hospital, the average number of occupied beds for the month being 73.92. The number of operations performed was 37, of which 15 were major and 22 minor operations. The Waipawa Hospital Board’s patients’ fees for Hie month ended February 28 totalled £395 2/7, being made up as follows:—Waipukurau Hospital, £337 17/10; Rathbone Maternity Hospital, £4O 4/7; sanatoria payments, £l7 1/-. The monthly meeting of the Waipukurau branch of the Plunket Society was held in the Salvation Army Hall on Tuesday afternoon, Mrs j. Hobson presiding over Mesdames W. A. Chambers, J- A. Chambers. E. Broad. J. AV. Harding, F. S. Hopkinson. Paul Hunter. M. .Toblin, B. J. McCormick. J. C. Nicholls. J. D. Ormond, .1 Huntly-AValker and Mrs B. Mathieson (secretary). Apologies for absence were tendered from Mrs P. Hunter. Mrs C. Pattison and Mrs E. H. Leigh. The last-named sent in her resignation from the committee on account of leaving the district. The secretary was instructed to write to Mrs Leigh expressing the committee’s regret at her departure and thanking her for the splendid work she had done on behalf of the society. The nurse’s report for the month of February was as follows:—Visitors to rooms: Waipukurau. adults 136, babies 101, children 8, total 275. Takapau adults 35. babies 34, children 9, total 78. A’isits to homes: AVaipukurau 55 Takapau 4. New cases: Waipukurau 1 Takapau 2. Cases under care: AVaipukurau 183. Takapau 19. The net proceeds from the rccen* Plunket shop were £34 5/-. The pres l dent passed a vote of thanks to all helpers. A discussion ensued as to the adviss bility of holding an entertainment a' Hatuma. It was left in the hands o< Mrs Hobson to arrange. Two new members were elected to the society, being Mrs L. AV. Bishop and Mrs Duncan Holden. Nurse Trotter, of the Waipukurau Public Hospital staff, is at present on annual leave. Miss R. Marfell, Farm road, AVaipukurau, has been appointed to fill the vacanev on the probationary nursing staff at the Waipukurau Public Hospital. Mrs P. Mason, of Waipukurau, is on a visit to Feilding. ,
