CONCLUDING FUNCTION. TROPHIES PRESENTED. The Hawke’s Bay Croquet Association’s tournament, which commenced ou February 28, came to a conclusion yesterday afternoon, when there was a large attendance of players and interested spectators to watch the final games. Great credit must be given to the president of the association and organise! of the tournament, Mrs H. J. Bailey, for the excellent arrangements made and help given; also to Airs T. Rowe, secretary of the association. for much hard work put in during the fortnight’s play. A very dainty afternoon tea was provided by the ladies of the various Napier clubs, and was dispensed by the captains of these clubs.

The final game was finished after tea and those present assembled at the pavilion, when the president said: “Before calling on our vice-president. Mrs C. Hopkins, of Hastings, to present the trophies, I wish to thank one and all for the assistance given to me during this tournament; also to thank our secretary, Mrs T. Rowe, and her band of willing helpers who have worked hard in arranging and serving meala at the greens.—l wish to congratulate ail players who have won the different events and to those who made them play so hard, ‘better luck next time.’ ” Mrs Bailey announced that the cup presented on the opening morning by the Mayor, Mr J. Vigor Brown, has been alloted by the executive to the B Grade, to be played for annually on the same conditions as the other cups, the holder to have name engraved and hold the trophy for one year. Afrs Hopkins was then handed the trophies, and amidst applause presented them to the fortunate winners as follow:—

Open singles, Hawke’s Bay championship.—Mrs C. Watkins (Hastings) 1, Afrs W. G. Ball (Napier 2. Ladies singles, Hawke's Bay championship.—Mrs U. Waking (Hastings) 1, Afrs Pitcnithly (Hastings) 2. Championship open doubles. —Mesdames Tiffen (Napier) and C. Watkins (Hastings) 1, Afrs Fitcaithly (Hastings) nnd Air H: P. Stratton (Hastings) 2.

Handicap doubles.—Alesdaines Tomlinson and Esson (both of Hastings) 1. Aicsdanies Walker (Wellington) and Arkens (Hastings) 2. Handicap singles, A Grade.—Mesdames L. Freedman (Napier) 1, and Esson (Hastings) 2. Handicap singles, B Grade.—Mesdames Arkens (Hastings) 1, and Courtney (Napier) 2. The final presentation was not in connection with the tournament, but Airs Bailey said that on behalf of the New Zealand Croquet Association she had been asked to present to Afr Stratton the championship medal won by him recently at the New Zealand championship meeting held at the Hutt (AA'ellington). Sho said that she thought those present should feel very proud that a member of their association had come out on top.
