WELLINGTON MEETING

OPENS TO-MORROW AT TRENTHAM. REVIEW OF THE FIELDS. The acceptances received for the above meeting, which takes place to-morrow and Saturday, although quite satisfactory, are not up to the volume of last season. Gold Trail and Speed represent local stables, while Lady Spy and Royal Dash, from Clive, have also made tire trip. BIMU HIGHWEIGHT HANDICAP. Of 160 sovs; one mile and a quarter.

Gay Court won at Masterton on Friday and was unlucky on the second day when finishing second. This is really good form for a high-woighi candidate. Lqcksley, from the South, has been racing consistently. Chief Line won two similar events at the Trentham January meeting, but failed in Taranaki just after. Adventus was nowhere at Bulls. Revision, from Blenheim, is fair. Palace won a double at Masterton the first day, but failed badly on tho second day. Fine Acre will hardly be considered for a while yet. Owlsflight, from the Cutis stable, will be respected, while the Woodville gelding Red Flush will have a very fair following. Gay Court, Red Flush and Chief Line, on form, look like being the best backed. TRIAL PLATE. Of 160 sovs; seven furlongs.

Azure's form of late has not been up to earlier promise. Bonnie Vale ran consistently at Wanganui and Woodville. Eupator is fair and was third to Kemal Pasha and Chile at tho last Trentham meeting over this same distance. Granado lias not come up to expectations. Heather Glow, from tho South, is an attractive galloper with good track work of recent date. Love Court has no form. Miss Hushabyo won at Woodville to pay a big dividend—she is galloping well too in private. Royal Dash was consistent in securing places at Napier and has also a recent third in open company over seven furlongs. Shining Gold, breport, is. sore. Silver Sight has form to recommend, 'fakir! and Whetu-ma have no form. Royal Dash, Heather Glow and Miss Hushabye may furnish the favourite. ST. LEGER STAKES. Of 550 sovs; for 3-year-ofds; one mile and three-quarters.

As a classic proposition Cardinal Moon has no credentials but, being a Night Raid, may prove a stayer. Inflation has shown little promise as a stayer. I’eschiera is a decent hack, but this is not hack class. Rocket is a possibility on Derby running. Bambury cannot stay. Chile, by Limond— Waterwings, appeals on breeding alone, but two small hack wins are his best form. Clangor is one that might surprise. Gold Trail, worse luck, is probably not at her best. Golden Horn has very little form, but in all his races has shown decided signs of winning over a distance. Good Hunting is a very unlikely starter. Importance is another that is a doubtful starter. Tout le Mond is said to have improved considerably and, being a Limond, is backed by staying blood. Rebel Song is most likely to take on the mile hack. La Moderne, second in both the Derbies, will just about start favourite. This field is larger than usual, but maybe by the time the starting post is reached many scratchings will be recorded. Favouritism may be shared bv La Moderne, Tout le Mond and Clangor. CHAMPION TWO-YEAR-OLD PLATE Of 450 sovs.; six furlongs.

This is one of the star attractions of the meeting. Guarantee has won two “classics’’ this season, but both of under six furlongs. Still, in his races he has always finished strongly. Princes? Doreen is right back at her best and this last fortnight has been galloping remarkably well at Awapuni. Diatomous at Wanganui and Woodville did not impress as ho did earlier in the season. Dole is a great and brilliant galloper and it maybe that iu tho last furlong he will fail —over five ho would bo the favourite. Fracas in all her races has shown stamina and determination and this filly must be one to be seriously considered. Red Manfred has latterly disappointed many of his admirers but ou spring form should enter calculations. Epigram, outside a maiden win, has no form. Gay Sheila, from the North, has been consistent in handicap class. Golden Hair is a good filly and might surprise ere it is all over. Pegged Exchange, half-brother to Tea Trader, will need to have improved. Trivet is well spoken of, but his form is only moderate. In a big pool the most mav be invested on Princess Doreen, Fracas and Golden Hair, THOMPSON HANDICAP. Of 500 sovs.; one mile.

Autopay is a brilliant miler and. if started, must be one of the prime selections.. * Gay Crest, last year’s winner, Jben he carried 61b. more,

cannot be recommended on this season’s form. Cricket Bat is a brilliant miler that is going to take all kinds of licking. Ruling Light al the last Trentham fixture created a ucsi favourable impression, but afterwards at Dunedin disappointed. She is a well come mare and, if at her best again, must appeal, though the mile race she did win a.t Trentham last January was not strong, dahoma and Drumfire tilling the other two places. Shatter has run some good races and over a mile will, with any luck in the running, bo most dangerous, inflation fit ana well would command respect. Awaken lias some form to recommend over a mile and, looking through his past, is just the sort at the weights to surprise. Arrow Lad appears to be. past Ins best. Eminent lias winning form on his side but over a longer distance, nevertheless the Leighton gelding enters the argument. Bayacre has a win in poor company at Woodville to his recent credit. Miladi last January at Trentham won over a mile in good company with 7.11 and now, with 61b. off her back, must have a look-in. Assemble Recently broke 1.10 for six at Riccarton so may be a headliner. Martian Chief has .been gradually running into form and his last start was a convincing win over seven furlongs. This gelding reads one of the best of the light division. Royal Bengal might. Lady Spy on Napier form is a decided possibility, as she should have wop both days. The Clive mare, at a price, will entice support. Princess Argosy is galloping very attractively since coming up from the South so that on track form she will have her following. Martian Chief, Cricket Bat and Assemble may make most appeal. SILVERSTREAM HANDICAP. Of IGO sovs.; one mile.

Zeebrugge in three seasons has won only three races, so that at 8.7 has nothing the best of rt. Of the same age and sex, Hastings-owned Speed has won eight races and has 31b. less. Speed left here a fit horse and, both on track and public form, must go well. Senegal disappointed badly at Bulls. Trek is a fair hack and has winning form of recent date. Rebel Song (Robespierre-—Toti dal Monte) is very well spoken of in the other island and in his last two starts won easily, winning the latter, a mile race, by four lengths in 1.40 J. Pcschiera is another with recent winning form. March Alone is but fair, and the same applies to Cardinal Moon. Shootist and Aroma have been in place money recently without winning. Hebei Song, Speed and Pcschiera may attract most attention. RAILWAY HANDICAP. Of 250 sovs.; six furlongs.

Autopay, if not started in the Thompson, will have a big following. Golden Wings is a proved brilliant galloper and is at present at the very peak of his form. Lordly Knight, with ,51b. less, won on the third day at the last Trentham fixture from Pomp, Cricket Bat and Souchong and, as he has been galloping exceptionally well this last week, he will be one of the selections. True Shaft, in this field of sprinters, hardly appeals. Assemble is a possibility. Pomp caught at his best is hard to dispose of. Hunt the Slipper won a double at Masterton, but in verypoor company. Green Linnet has not won for some time, but is liable to improve. The Tiger is a brilliant galloper, but in open company so far has.been disappointing. Kerbside is a moderate performer only. Normandy is a real first-class galloper and it would not be the least surprising to see him leading this brilliant field home to-morrow. Should Autopay start in the mile, then the following may carry most machine money. Golden Wings, Normandy and Lordly Knight. TINAKORI HANDICAP. Of 160 sovs.; six furlongs.

For Wellington this field is not as strong as usual in quality. Good Hunting has 9.6, but, if one recalls the great race he ran to Souchong at the Napier Carnival meeting, the Gisborne three-year-old is hards to pass over. Might is a fair hack that has recent winning form to recommend. Mobile’s Dunedin form was good. Chief Light ran a first and a second at the last Trentham meeting. Worship has won in the other island but against moderates only. Ramuna failed at Masterton in maiden class. Palace, on the first day’s running at Opaki, is a possibility. Cottesmore is galloping only fairly at Trentham. Late Jost goes fast, but has very little winning form. Eupator is an outside possibility only. The remaining four acceptors possess no form. Might, Good Hunting and Chief Light look most likely to engage backers’ attention.
