CHRISTIAN SCIENCE CHURCHES
SUBSTANCE was the subject of the Lesson-Sermon in all Churches of Christ, Scientist, on Sunday, 12th March. The Golden Text was from Hosea 12:6, ‘‘Turn thou to thy God; keep mercy and judgment, and wait on thy God continually.” Among the citations which comprised the Lesson- Sermon were the following from the Bible: “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. Through faith we understand that the worlds were framed by the word of God, so that things which are seen were not made of things which do appear.” (Heb. 11:1,3.) Also the following passages from the Christian Science textbook, “Science and Health with Key to the Scriptures,” by Mary Baker Eddy: ‘‘Substance is that which is eternal and incapable of discord and decay. Truth, Life, and Love are substance as the Scriptures use this word in Hebrews. Spirit, the synonym of Mind, Soul, or God, is the only real substance. Christian Science declares that Mind is sub. stance, also that matter neither feels, suffers, nor enjoys.” (pp. 468. 414.)
