NEW REDCLYFFE BRIDGE
AUCKLAND FIRM’S CONTRACT PRICE TO BE ABOUT £12,000 It is understood that Messrs Wilcox and Co., an Auckland firm of contractors, have secured the Public Works contract for the construction of a new bridge over the Tutaekuri river at Rcdclyffe. The price is quoted as being in the neighbourhood of £12,000, which is a good deal below the assessment made when this work was projected shortly after the earthquake in 1931. The constructors anticipate that a year will sec the work finished. Tho work will begin almost immediately. The new concrete bridge is to be built on the Taradalo side of the present timber one, and at such an angle as to reduce tho sharpness of the bend when approaching the bridge from Taradalo. Tn addition to tho vehicle tracks there will be footpaths for pedestrians. The bridge should prove a valuable addition to the arterial system of roads which cut through the surrounding countryside.
